Plant a Row

Since 2009, the Norwood Evening Garden Club has maintained a 20’ x 20’ vegetable plot at the Adams Farm Community Garden in Walpole. Since the plot is worked solely for charitable purposes under the Plant a Row for the Hungry banner, the Community Garden provides the space at no charge to the club.

In 2016, our Plant a Row (PAR) vegetable plot was supervised and maintained by certified Massachusetts Master Gardeners with other members from our NEGC. A variety of vegetables are organically grown and gathered for the benefit of our neighbors in need of help with their groceries.

The plot also serves as a drop-off location for other community gardeners with excess produce to contribute to the weekly donations. The collective effort results in several hundred pounds of organically grown produce which is delivered to the Norwood food pantry, and previously Rosie’s Place in Boston.

These fresh, nutritious vegetables greatly improved the quality of many meals. The efforts of those who participated by planting, weeding, watering and harvesting are so very much appreciated by those who receive the donations.
