Sep 24, 2024 Charlie Nardozzi Growing Bulbs

Fall is a traditional time to wrap up the gardening season in many areas. It’s also the perfect time to plant spring flowering bulbs. Charlie Nardozzi will talk about common and unusual bulbs, how to plant, care for and protect them in the garden and containers so they come back each year. He will also talk about garlic and other food bulbs to plant in fall.

Oct 29, 2024 Jen Kettell Avoiding the Green Helmet (Shrub Pruning)

Join Jen Kettell from Radiant Leaf Consulting for lessons in pruning. In some ways, pruning flowering shrubs can be a bit more complicated than pruning trees. When shrubs have been improperly pruned or just left to their own devices, they begin to resemble what Jen calls “The Green Helmet.”

In this workshop, you will learn how to avoid The Green Helmet by selective and timely pruning using her 10-step guide, along with the appropriate tools and personal protective gear.

Jan 28, 2025 Kathy Connolly Leave the leaves, Save the Stems

Fallen leaves, decaying logs, and dead-headed flowers nurture overwintering birds, pollinators, fireflies, turtles, and other wildlife. But…it's all so messy! How can we manage the practical and aesthetic concerns that arise when we keep autumn materials on home or community properties?

Learn how she experimented for several years with these ideas in her own yard. She will share what she learned about careful plant selection, plant care, timing, and the role of design in the winter landscape. We’ll also discuss the life-giving importance of winter habitat for insects, birds, and other wildlife.

Feb 25, 2025 Joan Butler Designing Shady Retreats

In this richly illustrated lecture, we explore a variety of intriguing gardens that will inspire you to create your own shady retreats! We show you design tricks and strategies to light up shady corners, highlight unusual plants that thrive in low-light conditions, and illustrate the creative use of art objects, seating and water features.

Mar 25, 2025 Gretel Anspach Native New England Flora

This presentation focuses on the native plants of New England. Plants native to our region will be easier to maintain, better able to withstand New England weather and may offer better resistance to deer and rabbits. The trees, shrubs, and perennials that evolved here will grow here with much less input from you. You will reduce your workload while creating a paradise for the native birds and pollinators.

Apr 29, 2025 Deb Trickett Perennials in Pots

The container gardening craze, which began over ten years ago, shows no sign of slowing down. More than ever these perfectly sized “gardens” are the answer for time-pressed gardeners, down-sizing gardeners, city-dwelling gardeners, aging gardeners and more.

The good news is the container gardens of yesterday (think geranium and vinca) have evolved. Today’s containers showcase many types of plants, including perennials.

Learn how to use perennials to transform your containers from “blah” to “aah”. You’ll learn the fundamentals of container gardening, “out of the box” design tips, as well as some of our favorite tried and true perennial performers.

May 27, 2025 Cheryl Monroe The Blended Garden: In Praise of Multihorticulturalism

Are you feeling guilty and confused about the current hype surrounding native-only planting? Are you overwhelmed by terms like invasive, aggressive, exotic, indigenous, alien and sustainable? Are you worried about the environmental impact of your garden? Learn the science and dispel the myths behind the Native vs. Exotic Plant Debate and the best way to make a garden that you, the pollinators, and Mother Earth will adore.
